Stefan studied Engineering at Cambridge University. Following graduation he spent a year working in the nuclear industry. He took Masters and Doctorate degrees in composite materials at Imperial College, London before spending seven years working in Japan for Kobe Steel Ltd. In the UK he has worked for materials companies ranging from multi-nationals to start-ups, as well as leading the development of gas detection equipment for industrial safety applications. He is now Chief Executive of the Engineering Equipment and Materials Users Association, EEMUA, an industry body for owners and operators of fixed engineering assets – expensive capital plant with high degrees of hazard to people and the environment. EEMUA is especially known for its guidance and training in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of storage tanks, developed by industry, for industry.
